Fashions from St.Vincent and the Grenadines showcase at Nolcha Fashion Week: New York

August 30, 2009 – New York, NY – Nolcha Fashion Week: New York is thrilled to welcome four independent fashion designers from St.Vincent and the Grenadines. The runway show will take place simultaneously with New York Fashion Week on September 16th at the iconic Bohemian National Hall in association with Czech Republic Consulate General.

Invest SVG, through assistance from the European Union (EU), who is committed to the development and promotion of the Fashion Industry in St.Vincent and the Grenadines will be sponsoring independent fashion designers Tami B, Shernicia, Kimmyst.clo and Soka.

“The idea that a region so small can produce such unique designers all with the passion and drive to succeed in fashion all while adding their own life influence to their garments is something we at Nolcha are always looking to promote, “ says Lynn Furge, Nolcha Creative Director. “After all fashion is a global marketplace.

The Tami B Spring Summer 2010 collection combines supple and comfortable fabrics, Caribbean-inspired colors and feminine designs, Tami B Designs brings something new to Swimwear and Resort apparel: a connection to the environment surrounding us. Inspired by these powerful elements from the environment, this collection features elements of St. Vincent’s active volcano, called La Soufriere and elements of one of the few places on Earth that can boast about having black-sand and white-sand

This season, Shernicia, will depict men and women enjoying their clothes. Fabrics will be cool and comfortable and styles are fun, flirty, and full of flair with a pinch of fantasy, so that customers can weave their own personal styles and individuality into the clothes.

The Kimmystic.Clo 2010 collection is colorful, intense, energetic, fun, vibrant, and chic. The collection which includes some hand painted pieces was inspired by the colors of nature and features an explosion of colors which represents the flavor and diversity of all our Caribbean islands and people as we come together to create a pepper pot. It comprises relaxed yet fabulous clothing made from a fusion of fabrics such as silks, chiffon and various blends of cottons.

Soka’s romanticized 2010 collection explores sensual fabrics in rich textures and colours of red and gold with soft palettes and hues of blush pinks, these avant-garde designs are for the less commercial. Inspired by the colonial influence of the French and African enslaves in the 1840’s, this collection shows Africa meeting Europe on the Caribbean islands of Martinique and St. Vincent. It is her interpretation of these meetings.
