cariberry

In light of Barack’s recent declaration (yes, Barack, he and I are cool like that!), you know, June being National Caribbean-American Heritage month, and all, I figured it is only fitting to rename the Blackberry.  Yep, Caribbean people are on the come up, lol.   And to show my allegience to the Caribbean, mostly St. Vincent, but okay the Caribbean, I am now going to refer to my Blackberry as the Cariberry.  I love it!!!!!!!

What’s in a name?

Author: Zulema
06.04.2009

ALOT!!!! don’t you think?? Well I do! Ok, let’s take my name for example…well of course I was going to use MY name as an example, what? you thought I was going to use YOUR name?? Ok, so my name is Zulema (duh)…When I was younger I went searching to find out  the meaning of my name. I asked this African vendor on the street once, YES! I asked an African vendor!! I mean my name is African!!!! Okay so when I asked, he answered “easy”. WHAT!??!! Hold me back!! You don’t know me like that!!! Seeing my face he said “no, no, not hard” Ummm..okay, so you are saying I’m soft now??!! This search was not starting off on a good foot. Sensing that I was about to steal his merchandise and run just because I was mad he went on “No, not hard to explain” HUH? So I figured I would help him out “Not hard to understand”? “Yes”….Oh okay I can live with that. I guess.  So for a long time I went around telling people that Zulema meant ‘not hard to understand’.  But then I got bored with that meaning and I did a search online..I know I should have done that in the first place.  In my search I find out that my name means ‘peace’  STOP LAUGHING!!!
Now the irony in all of this is that whenever someone asks me my name, they never get it, they can’t pronounce it and they never understand what I’m saying. “Zalima”? “Zulma”? “Zuma”? NO! NO! NO! ZULEMA! So no matter what meaning you choose they both go out the window because no one understands, clearly it IS hard to understand and then I am not very peaceful once they screw it up, look at me like I’m crazy or disregard my pronunciation and say whatever they want to.
The name challenge continues with the name of my FABULOUS boutique, look I already told you it is FABULOUS, pay attention! Yeah, the name of my FABULOUS boutique is Anavaa Kisasa.  And I can’t begin to tell you how that gets screwed up!  People resort to saying “AK”…umm that’s not the name of the store!!!!! But when I tell them the MEANING of Anavaa Kisasa, they get all tickled. You see it means ‘he/she dresses in fashion’. You like that huh? Yeah I know…
So again, I ask what’s in a name? Alot..Alot of meaning, alot of character, a name defines a person, it distinguishes one from another, yeah even if you share your name with another person.  For example, my name, YES, I’m using MY name again! I was named after an African singer named Zulema.  And I can’t sing to save my life! A now famous designer and I share the same name. You might know her, she was on Project Runway.  She was a beast on the show.  Some may say a b%!&* And all of you that know me, know that I am so not like that ;-)
Ok, the point I’m trying to make is this: Names are important, so pronounce mine and my company’s name correctly!! Get it!!
